Shooting: Match Rifle
Match rifle is the longest range discipline shot in Ireland with optically sighted rifles at distances of 1,000 yards, 1,100 yards and 1,200 yards. This discipline is similar to FTR, whereas the calibres permitted are .308W/7.62 Nato and the .223 Remington.
Rules are simple
- Rifle – 308W/7.62 Nato and .223 Remington only. (Other calibres may be introduced in the future)
- Trigger pull – 1.5kg/3.307lbs, (This rule is of utmost importance)
- Barrel- Maximum weight 2.5kg/5.5lbs
- Sights - Any sight
Firing position – Prone, the rifle cannot have any contact with the ground. An adjustable rest is permitted to support the forward hand or forearm. The rifle cannot be rested on any type of rest. The butt must not rest on anything. It must be held rested into the shoulder.
Competitors with disabilities preventing them from shooting in the prone position may be permitted to shoot seated at a table, (Benchrest style). Rules for the rifle and rifle mounting are the same. The rifle is not permitted to have any contact with the bench.
